Choices in marriage

The day a couple got married the Pastor said “Each and every day you must wake up and choose to be married”. Getting married does not mean everything will now take care of itself, because after all, we are now married.

  1. Choose God as the Lord of your life – choose His Lordship. Why should we choose Him as our Lord? To make us into His image – to enable us bear Fruit of the Spirit. To make us a channel of blessing to others – a tool in His hands.
  1. Choose to minister   Our ministry first starts at home to our spouse. Following are some of them ways to minister:
  • By appreciating him/her
  • By accepting him/her
  • By releasing him/her to use his/her talents and develop his potentials
  • By praying with him/her and for him/her
  1. Choose to love: Why does the Bible instruct us to love one another over and over again? Because God knows, we are the only one who can make the “choice” to Love, everyday of our lives! Give priority to your partner. Let not your career or children take that place. Many marriages are running on human love. This is why they are failing to bring the fulfillment they were supposed to.
  1.  Choose your life style:
  • Be content with what the Lord gives.
  • Avoid being materialistic or greedy to store treasures on earth
  • Be willing to share what you with others
  • Be accountable to God for everything He has entrusted in your care
  1. Choose to remain loyal and faithful: Remain true to the marriage vow. There may be lots of ups and downs, sickness or health, poverty or riches, success or failures and disappointment. In all these choose to Cherish your spouse.
  1. Choose to raise your child with right values: Choose to impart to them values that would last for eternity and make them responsible adults while they are on earth. There are many things money cannot give them. Be spiritually ambitious for them like Salomi the mother of James and John.
  1. Choose to serve the Lord:  Each one of us are called to serve the Lord in a unique way through our role as wife, mother, as husband, as father, with our talents, our time, possessions and our profession. Use your profession not merely to earn money, but as a means to reflect to others His love and power. Your walk talks louder than your talk talks.
  1. Choose to love our extended family members: Ruth is our role model. Because unconditional love doesn’t naturally exist between in-laws, it’s a decision that must be made and then acted on daily with God’s strength. Our relationship with our in-laws will improve as our relationship with God grow. The more we determine to obey God in every aspect of our life, the easier it is to deal with in-laws.
  1. Choose to be a fruitful vine Psalm 128: 3

The Mission Statement for our Marriage:

  • To do our very best to put God first always.
  • To be grateful everyday no matter what the day brings.
  • To believe that every joy we experience is truly a gift from Him.
  • To care for each other the way He cares for each of us.
  • To choose everyday to be one in marriage, to choose everyday to love each other.
